It's made of attractive birch, and rotates easily.The swivel base is very handy while you're working.It has plenty of slots for all (or most of) the knives you might have.Put your steak knives on the bottom, spread out the rest of them through the block.There's a place for your sharpening steel and any variety of knives you might have.It even had a slot large enough for my cleaver, so I could rescue that darling from the darkness of the drawer.The only caveat is that there is no slot for a pair of kitchen snips - I miss having those at the ready. Other than that,I love it.
